The hazards are well known: scaling reduces the flow area of the equipment, increases flow resistance and pressure drop, enhances the force acting on the equipment, and lowers heat transfer efficiency. The effects are particularly severe on rotating equipment, leading to reduced efficiency and output power as well as an increased likelihood of damage to the equipment’s components. There are physical and chemical methods for dealing with this issue; different treatment approaches are used depending on the application. Physical methods include increasing the frequency of cleaning, using saturated steam for cleaning, and ensuring that the temperature and superheat level are not too high. Chemical methods involve alkaline cleaning
