Can a 600LB gasket be used in place of a 300LB gasket? Using a higher one instead of a lower one should work, right?
It is best not to replace it; although the gasket pressure can meet the requirements, the bolt tightening force cannot, resulting in a higher likelihood of leakage.
What does it have to do with bolts! ! The bolts haven’t changed, and the thickness of the washers increases by at most 1 mm – that shouldn’t have any effect on the bolts. Are there any specifications regarding this? ?
I checked the types and parameters of steel pipe flanges (HG20615-97). Taking the raised-face flange as an example, the height of the ridge for class 600, which is also the height of the sealing surface, is 6.4, while for class 300 it is only 1.6. From this, it can be seen that the thickness of the gaskets varies depending on the class; if a higher-class flange is used with a lower-class one, the two raised surfaces cannot fit together tightly, and thus they cannot be interchanged. Am I correct?
Why can’t they be closely integrated? The two flanges are still 300LB; it’s just that the gaskets are now 600LB. The gaskets have become thicker and wider, but after testing, they can be installed without getting stuck on the bolts.
There is nothing wrong with the gasket itself, but care should be taken to ensure it does not affect the installation of the bolts.
For sizes 2\" and below, 300LB and 600LB are applicable; for larger sizes, the outer diameter of the gasket is different, which may prevent the bolts from passing through.
The small-size flange gaskets of 300LB and 600LB have the same outer diameter and can be used as substitutes. But large-size flanges are different; the outer diameter of 600LB flanges is too large, making it impossible to fit bolts inside.
The sealing thickness varies, so they cannot be replaced with each other. Otherwise, there would be no need to distinguish between 300 and 600
What the poster is referring to is probably a gasket; if its size is suitable enough to fit, it can be used as a substitute.
