Which manufacturer’s model is used for the rich gas compressor and its drive unit in your delayed coking unit? What is the processing capacity of the unit in Mt/a, and what is the flow rate of the rich gas at the compressor outlet in Nm3/h? Also, let’s discuss whether it is better to use a turbine or an electric motor as the drive mechanism
As far as I know, the compressors used in coking are generally driven by steam turbines; using electric motors is less energy-efficient than using steam turbines.
For a coking unit with a capacity of 1.4 million tons per year, the rich gas compressor is a centrifugal compressor with a horizontal split design and two compression stages; its model is 2MCL458. It is driven by a back-pressure steam turbine, and its shaft seal uses a dry gas seal. The main engine, drive machine, and dry gas seal of the unit were designed and manufactured by Shenyang Blower Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Turbine Co., Ltd., and Sichuan Sealing Technology Research Institute, respectively. The turbine is a multi-stage industrial turbine from the Hangzhou Turbine Factory, manufactured using specialized technologies derived from designs provided by German Siemens Corporation. Its main feature is that it is designed using a series of building blocks and computer optimization for the flow components. The turbine is divided into several sections. Based on the steam conditions as well as the power and speed requirements of the driven machine, the necessary sections are combined, and by adding various corresponding components, different types of steam turbines are created. The product performance meets standards such as DIN and API. Using a steam turbine is more energy-efficient and easier to adjust.
Hangqi-Shengu centrifuge, low-pressure steam condensing compressor, 1 million tons/year, 10,000 Nm3/h. There is no fixed rule for the drive type; it mainly depends on the conditions of the plant’s steam pipeline network. Use a motor when the steam load is insufficient. There is an excess of medium-pressure steam, so a backpressure turbine is used. There is an excess of low-pressure steam, so a condensing steam turbine is used.
I used to work in a coking plant with a capacity of 40 MT/a, where reciprocating compressors were used, and the outlet flow rate was 4000 cubic meters. Our pneumatic compressor is from Shengli Steam Turbine Group, and the turbine that drives it is from Hangzhou Steam Turbine Company; the performance of this setup is quite good. The processing capacity of the device is 1.4 million tons. I think whether to use an electric motor or a turbine to drive the pneumatic compressor depends on whether your company has more electricity or more steam available. 1# gmdyes

Our compressors are from Shengli Steam Turbine Group, while the steam turbines that drive them are from Hangzhou Steam Turbine Group; the condensing unit has a processing capacity of 600,000 tons. Electric drive requires large investment, but is simple to operate.
