Sinopec to invest 14 billion yuan in Wuhan for 800,000-ton ethylene project

The groundbreaking ceremony for China Petrochemical’s 800,000-ton/year ethylene project in Wuhan – the largest integrated oil refining and chemical processing project in the central region – was held in Hongshan District, Wuhan. As a key project under the 11th Five-Year Plan, the construction of this project will fill the gap of the absence of large-scale ethylene plants in China’s central region and improve the overall layout of the country’s ethylene industry. In accordance with the approval given to the project feasibility study report, the investment for the Wuhan plant with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons of ethylene amounts to over 14 billion yuan. The plant will include new production facilities for 800,000 tons of ethylene cracking per year, 500,000 tons of cracked gasoline hydrogenation per year, 400,000 tons of aromatic extraction per year, 120,000 tons of butadiene extraction per year, 300,000 tons of high-density polyethylene per year, 300,000 tons of linear low-density polyethylene per year, 400,000 tons of polypropylene per year, and 300,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year. The overall design is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2008, the cogeneration unit is to be built by June 2010, and trial operation with feedstock is to begin in the first half of 2011. According to Xinhua News Agency, Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan sent a congratulatory message for the project. He pointed out that the 800,000-ton ethylene project in Wuhan is a major initiative in China’s petrochemical industry, and it serves as an important step in promoting the development of the central region and fostering coordinated economic growth in that area. Its construction helps to improve the layout of China’s ethylene industry and enhance the utilization level of petroleum resources; it also facilitates the development and upgrading of related industries, as well as the adjustment and optimization of the economic structure in the central region.
Sinopec’s projects are always on a grand scale
Large-scale projects can help bring about a new rise and progress for the petrochemical industry in the central region. At present, there are only some news items regarding construction activities; it would be great if it were possible to recruit more people
It’s news from a long time ago; in December 2007, the construction of Sinopec’s 800,000 tons per year ethylene plant in Wuhan began. However, the project was gradually put on hold without any announcement, and the construction team left a long time ago.

Sometimes it turns out that many people in these forums do not work in the chemical industry; in posts like this, I believe both the person who posted and those who replied are not from the petrochemical industry, or they are from related industries at best. The large-scale ethylene project at Wuhan Petrochemical is in progress; all the processes have been selected: HDPE-INEOS, PP ST-II and PP-Chisso, EOG SD, etc. The PDP phase is almost complete
Currently, there is an increasing amount of ethylene produced across the country. There are ethylene production facilities in Baotou in Inner Mongolia, Pengzhou in Sichuan, Quanzhou in Fujian, as well as a smaller facility in Shenyang, and a large facility in Wuhan. This represents an opportunity for talent working in China’s ethylene production sector as well
