The poster is probably referring to a peristaltic pump; I’ve really never heard of a ‘peristallic pump’ before. A peristaltic pump uses rotating cams (usually 2 or 3 cams) to rotate and compress a hose, thereby transporting and pumping liquid; it is also known as a hose pump. This pump has some pretty good advantages. 1. The material being transported comes into contact only with the hose, so there are no sealing issues involved. If the hose is damaged, simply replace it. 2. It can handle high viscosity fluids and operate dry. 3. It can deliver quantities precisely, so it can be used for metering, with an accuracy of around 0.5%.
