The boiler manufactured by the company has been in operation for two years, and now the user has noticed a bulge on the upper drum’s body, with a diameter of 20 mm. The user is eager for us to come up with a solution. I just don’t understand how it can become such a big lump. By the way, I heard that this problem occurred with this boiler drum before; it’s the second time now. Let’s all analyze it.
It is likely that the material used for the boiler drum is incorrect or that the wall thickness of the drum is too small; otherwise, this problem should not arise after two years of use.
Is it operating under a positive pressure condition for an extended period of time?
Has there been any overheating during operation?
If it’s a material issue, then why does bulging occur only in that one area? Moreover, that bag is at a certain distance from the weld.
Check the following aspects related to waste discharge: whether there is residual dirt in the area where the boiler drum bulges; whether the boiler feed water has not been softened or has not been softened properly, resulting in an excess of salts that accumulate at the bottom of the boiler drum, impairing heat transfer and causing bulging. Typically, bulging accidents occur due to local overheating caused by the accumulation of scale. It is usually caused by poor water treatment leading to scaling, failure to shut down the boiler for cleaning after boiling, or the accumulation of scale that isn’t removed in a timely manner! Care should be taken when carrying out patch repairs; the plan must be sound. The patched area should have a radius of curvature of at least 100 mm, with a circumferential spacing of no less than 300 mm and a peripheral spacing of no less than 100 mm (and greater than 3 times the plate thickness), among other requirements!
