The control valve should be installed on a horizontal pipe, perpendicular to the pipe both above and below; it is generally necessary to provide support beneath the valve to ensure stability and reliability. For special occasions where the control valve needs to be installed horizontally on a vertical pipe, it should also be supported (except for control valves with small diameters). During installation, it is necessary to avoid applying additional stress to the control valve, such as misalignment of the pipeline and the valve or parallelism issues with the flanges. Additionally, control valves are usually required to be installed vertically. When vertical installation is not possible, the control valve with the flange fixed by 4 bolts can be installed in four positions: tilted 45° upward, tilted 45° downward, horizontally, or vertically downward. For control valves fixed to the flange with 8 bolts, there are 9 installation positions, each 22.5° apart. Among these installation locations, the most ideal is vertical upward installation, which should be given priority ; The upward-tilted position is the second choice, followed by 22.5°, 45°, and 67.5° ; Installed vertically downward to the secondary position ; The worst installation position is horizontal; a version with a 67.5° downward tilt, which is still relatively horizontal, is generally not adopted. Based on experience, installing them in front of the control valve results in relatively stable system pressure, higher measurement accuracy, and fewer fluctuations ; Behind the control valve, the pressure fluctuates significantly as the valve is opened and closed, which may lead to discrepancies between the orifice plate selected and the actual conditions, resulting in inaccurate measurements and instability ; Therefore, it is best to install it in front of the valve. Many flowmeters have requirements regarding the length of the straight pipe section ahead of them.

It easily causes the linkage of the actuator to be out of alignment with the axis of the valve core, increasing the torque on the actuator and shortening its service life ; 3. It may also pose a risk of collision to personnel involved in operation, inspection, and maintenance.
Is what the poster is referring to the installation of control valves on vertical pipes? Pneumatic diaphragm control valves can be installed on vertical pipes, as long as proper support for the valves is provided. Moreover, there is no issue with so-called diaphragm head spring displacement, as the spring is already compressed when it is installed in the diaphragm head; the friction generated by this compression is sufficient to overcome the spring’s own weight, and the spring remains fixed in a slot within the diaphragm head. Another issue is that, generally speaking, it is best to install the control valve after the flow meter; if it is installed before the flow meter, a longer straight pipe section is required (to ensure a more stable flow of fluid). Providing such a long straight pipe section is usually difficult in practical situations. Therefore, try to install a straight pipe section after the flow meter.
It is generally installed horizontally; in special cases, it can be installed vertically, but this decision depends on the process conditions and the installation location.
