Currently, waste heat boilers are commonly used for cooling the flue gas from bottom-blown furnaces designed by ENFI Design Institute. The advantage of this approach is that it enables waste heat recovery for power generation, but the construction costs are also high. If waste heat power generation is not considered, and instead cost savings in construction are the focus, is it possible to avoid using waste heat boilers and opt for other forms of cooling (such as water jackets)? Are there any examples in China?
Of course that’s possible; it seems that the side-blown furnace used for lead smelting at the Zhonglian Head Office in Xinxiang Xiaoji doesn’t have a waste heat boiler. However, waste heat boilers aren’t actually expensive; they just consist of a few boiler tubes and a steam drum.
Of course, it’s better to use a waste heat boiler! Water jackets can easily get damaged – they leak, and the operating costs are high; basically, a new set of water jackets needs to be replaced every 3-4 months! The water jackets that were used in our factory before have now been replaced with waste heat boilers!
Hehe, it’s not easy either to save money. Waste heat utilization is **funded**.

The choice of cooling method should be determined by taking into comprehensive consideration the efficiency of heat energy utilization, the objectives, as well as the equipment usage, operation, maintenance, operating costs, and the integrated design of the system’s process.
