The process involves acid washing, followed by rinsing to remove carbon powder, vacuum filtration, and washing until the solution reaches a neutral pH. In this process, water is used entirely to wash the acidic material to neutrality, and a very large amount of water is required. I feel the same way; I also worked with this catalyst for a while during my graduate studies. I would like to ask what kind of reaction you are carrying out, and to what extent does acid treatment improve the reactivity of this reaction. Personally, I believe that after acid treatment, the loading amount of palladium decreases significantly, given the same particle size and quantity of activated carbon. Moreover, for a reaction I worked on previously, acid treatment of the activated carbon was not useful at all. Do not place undue trust in the acid treatment processes mentioned in the literature.

By acid treatment, I mean treatment with oxidizing acids. It is mainly nitric acid. But it definitely affects the loading of palladium. Other oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide have little effect on the loading amount of palladium, but they also have little impact on the reaction I am conducting (confidential). Hehe.
