I recently visited a company, where their coal-fired boilers were being upgraded with a layered coal feeding system. As I know very little about coal-fired boilers, I’m not sure how significant this improvement is. I would appreciate it if experts could provide some guidance. Additionally, coal-fired boilers are generally divided into chain grate boilers and circulating fluidized bed boilers. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type, and how should one choose when using coal-fired boilers?
Layered coal feeding technology is only used in chain grate boilers to reduce coal leakage from the grates. Boilers can be classified according to their combustion method as follows: 1. Layer combustion boilers (such as chain grate boilers; boilers used for heating water also fall into this category), 2. Fluidized bed boilers, 3. Chamber combustion boilers (pulverized coal boilers), 4. Cyclone boilers
Layered coal feeding devices are installed on feed-type chain boilers; they allow the coal on the grate to be arranged in layers, with larger coal pieces being placed first on the grate and smaller coal particles and fines being spread on top of them. This results in a structure on the grate that is larger at the bottom and smaller at the top, enabling the coal to burn more thoroughly and improving the thermal efficiency of the boiler, thereby achieving coal savings.
