How to prevent mixing in the thickener
Reduce the solution flow rate, ensure accurate pH control; the amount of flocculant used can be increased appropriately. No changes have been detected in the physicochemical properties of the solute, and all normal controls have been carried out yet the cause has not been identified. It is possible that there are issues with the testing methods or with the quality of the raw materials and auxiliary materials
The addition of flocculants must be done with caution, as they can have a negative impact on subsequent processing stages. If the first sedimentation step does not yield satisfactory results, a second sedimentation step can be considered! Extend the settling time to improve settling efficiency!
Firstly, the fineness of the feed material must be strictly controlled, and the proportions must be adjusted appropriately to ensure stable operation of the thickener. Secondly, the liquid-solid ratio needs to be controlled to prevent mixing issues caused by an excessive amount of liquid. Thirdly, the concentration of the material discharged from the thickener should be reduced appropriately, with flocculants being used as little as possible or not at all.
We have changed the thickener to a semi-high-efficiency type; our factory has made this change and the results are very good. Fed directly into the compression zone, no flocculant required; the clarification zone is over 1 meter long.
The key is to ensure proper management and operation of the tank quality as well as the thickener.
1. The fineness of the feed to the thickener is very important; if the ore is too fine, it can easily cause turbidity; 2. The processing capacity of the thickener can be determined by referring to relevant information, from which the processing capacity per unit area can be obtained ; 3. The amount of water used in the thickening machine for washing: a larger amount of water helps improve the ore washing effect, but it results in a poor clarifying effect. These two aspects are contradictory, but it is necessary to find a balance and determine the optimal amount of water to use.
Reply to 1# Xue Zai Fei: The material that is processed first is either a chemical precipitate or a mineral raw material. If it is a chemical precipitate, then temperature may play a role; increasing the temperature appropriately can speed up the precipitation process and reduce the degree of turbidity. Regarding mineral raw materials, the main issues related to turbidity are first, the large volume of material to be processed, especially when there are significant fluctuations in the flow rate of the incoming material; second, the improper selection of flocculants – different molecular weights and electrical properties of flocculants are required for different types of material. It can be upgraded for improved efficiency, or an efficient thickener can be added at the front, with the overflow then going to a conventional thickener for secondary sedimentation.
