Does anyone know the differences in structure and design between water ring vacuum pumps and water ring compressors? Can they be used as substitutes for each other?
In my opinion, a pump is used to move liquids, while a compressor is used to move gases. Liquids are not easy to compress, and this can lead to cylinder damage
The pressure conditions for import and export are different. In general, it is feasible to use a vacuum pump as a backup for a compressor, but using a compressor as a backup for a vacuum pump will not meet the requirements; the motor of the vacuum pump cannot handle such high loads. Moreover, there are specific requirements regarding the inlet pressure of the vacuum pump
Difference between water ring vacuum pumps and water ring compressors: If the pump’s inlet is connected to a vessel for suction, it is called a water ring vacuum pump; if the pump’s outlet is connected to a vessel, it is called a water ring compressor. Their working principles are the same – both use an eccentric impeller installed within the pump to drive the working fluid (water) into rotation, thereby creating a rotating water ring that is used to suction or compress gaseous media. In either case, the medium handled by these devices is gas only.

However, when used together, the motor power of the compressor is much higher than that of the vacuum pump; therefore, a compressor can be used as a vacuum pump, but a vacuum pump cannot be used as a compressor. It’s okay to replace the motor as well!
The structure of the equipment is exactly the same; in other words, pumps of the same model are identical, with only the accompanying motors varying. So they can serve as backups for each other; it’s just that the motor of the compressor is larger than that of the vacuum pump.
The 4th floor is correct! The principle is the same; it’s only the structure that differs. The view on the 5th floor cannot be accepted; liquid ring pumps can be designed to perform both vacuum pumping and compression tasks. ~~ 90% of what is stated on the 6th floor is incorrect.
