I heard that cold boxes come in oval shapes; is the insulation performance of this design better than that of square ones? What are the advantages? Thank you
I’ve never heard of it. So there are such cold boxes – how is the interior of those cold boxes arranged? Should the tower and heat exchanger both be placed inside? What if repairs need to be carried out on such a small scale?

There are circular or oval ones; basically, they are all designed by foreign air separation manufacturers. This technology has only just started to be used, but the units are more compact. The pipelines generally follow the layout of the equipment, and the trend in terms of expansion is similar

In areas with high wind resistance, such as western China, using circular cold boxes can reduce the wind resistance coefficient and minimize waste of cold box materials. The entire distillation tower uses circular cold boxes; it is said that a successful example of this is AP’s 88,000 Nm3/h air separation plant on Trinidad. In the case of small air separation units that use circular cryogenic tanks, these are usually part of the cryogenic tank itself; for example, the cryogenic tanks for liquid oxygen pumps are circular in shape. That can’t be counted.
Small ones are fine; it’s easier to arrange the equipment and run the pipelines. Large ones are difficult.
Plex has round ones; the structure of this type of cold box is somewhat similar to that of a vacuum storage tank.
