I designed a distillation tower that is 16 meters high and has a diameter of 0.4 meters. What impact does a height-to-diameter ratio of over 30 have on a distillation tower? Are any reinforcement measures required? Thank you all for your replies!
If you place the tower inside the frame, there will be no issue with safety. It is recommended to use a 3–4 layer framework.
If it can be placed within a frame, that’s of course ideal; if not, use a conical skirt, as long as the calculations show it will work!
The height-to-diameter ratio is related to the material composition and separation efficiency
Given the wind and seismic loads, towers with such a high slenderness ratio should be placed indoors, or connected to adjacent buildings via a connection platform for reinforcement

If you want reliability, build a frame with 3 to 4 layers; if you want things to be simpler, use a conical base. But all the mechanical calculations need to be done properly
