The water ring vacuum pump installed in our company has started to experience significant difficulties in starting after 2 months of operation; it is not possible to rotate the drive shaft manually when the pump is not under load. After another approximately 10 days, it now requires 2–3 attempts to start before it can operate. To protect the motor, we are forced to suspend production at present, and we urgently need guidance from professionals.
How is its operating condition? Is there any vibration or noise? The pump can no longer be used (it’s just a problem with the pump); the most straightforward solution is to disassemble it for repair and replace the bearings or other components.
What material is it used to pump? Is there severe coking inside the pump that requires cleaning? In that case, cleaning of the coke can be carried out based on its type, without necessarily requiring disassembly and repair.

The gas pumped by the vacuum pump may tend to form scale, so it needs to be cleaned regularly. When adding water, the pump can be started by checking the water discharge mechanism; too much water inside the pump will result in an excessive starting current, leading to failure to start the pump

The operation method must be correct: the intake valve must be closed when starting, water should be added after startup, and the intake valve should be opened only once the vacuum level is normal. If turning the pump by hand before starting proves difficult, it is necessary to check the bearings of the pump and motor (making sure to maintain proper daily lubrication). To extend the service life of the vacuum pump, it is important to keep the water inside the pump at a neutral level, and to prevent both coking and corrosion. When stopping the pump, close the air inlet valve first; after shutting it down, drain the water. When the water temperature is high during operation, it is necessary to consider adding water at a lower temperature to cool it down.
