Strange question: The weld neck flange dimensions of PPN16 and PN40 are exactly the same; one is designed for higher pressure while the other for lower pressure. Why is even their thickness identical?
This is only the case for small-diameter flanges with a DN50 rating or less; it’s different for others.
As long as the wall thickness of the takeover is the same SCH value, it will be the same
Flanges of small diameter generally have the same dimensions. It’s different when you’re older. The main function of a flange is to work in conjunction with valves. The pressure resistance of a valve mainly does not depend on the flange. As long as the flange can withstand the pressure, that’s sufficient.
Flanges below DN50 are the same, but PN40 flanges are generally uneven, while flanges below PN40 are usually flat.

If all designs below PN40 are designed as PN40 from the start, isn’t that the same thing?
If that’s the case, then why are European standard flanges still classified into grades such as PN1.6, PN2.5, and PN4.0? There’s no need to go to such lengths! ! ! Floor 7: “If all those rated below PN40 are designed as PN40 from the start, isn’t that the same thing?” ”
I’ve encountered this issue as well; it seems that for flanges with a flat face and a diameter of DN50 or less, the pressure rating can reach PN40, but this is not the case for the welded part of the flange. Therefore, PN40 flanges use weld-neck flanges. As for the issue of identical thicknesses for flanges below DN50, this is done to simplify the standards and avoid having too many different size specifications.
