Seeking help: Experts in this forum, which companies in China are currently using the succinic anhydride esterification route to produce 1,4-butanediol? Under construction, and already in operation. What is used in hydrogenation catalysts? Which manufacturer produced it? Thank you
In China, the process for producing butanediol through the esterification and hydrogenation of maleic anhydride uses the DPT process package; the hydrogenation catalysts are of copper-manganese type and are manufactured abroad, with the catalyst grades also being designated using DPT codes. It is currently known that Shandong Jiatai was the first manufacturer to adopt this process. Nanjing Lansing’s BDO plant also began operations successfully this year, while Shanxi Sanwei’s BDO plant has been built and is now ready for commissioning. There are also about 5 manufacturers that are currently building or intend to adopt this process.
Is using maleic anhydride to produce 1,4-butanediol a bit of a step backward? The added value of maleic anhydride should be higher than that of 1,4-butanediol, right? I would appreciate some advice from those who are more experienced.

The maleic anhydride esterification catalyst developed by the Fushun Research Institute of Sinopec has been in industrial use for many years; its performance in all aspects is comparable to that of imported catalysts, making it a fairly successful catalyst.
The two-stage hydrogenation of diglycol at Shanxi University should be industrialized by now; those who are interested can look into it further
The catalysts for the DPT process are all from BASF.
Reply to 3# ljj2116: Oxidize butane to maleic anhydride, then carry out lipidation. Deacetalizing. The product quality obtained using the maleic anhydride method is better than that obtained using the alkyne aldehyde method. It is also suitable for the selective production of THF and GBL.
