Among the methanol supply lines at the reactor inlet of MTBE plants I have seen, some are located before the mixer while others are placed after it. I’m not sure whether this difference has any impact on performance; I would appreciate some guidance from experts
May I ask what the situation is regarding the additional line after the mixer? The situation before the mixer is easier to understand. Since the original poster is discussing this topic, I think it would be best to explain the process in detail, so that people who have no experience with MTBE reactors can also participate. Although most people without such experience may not know much, they might still be able to provide different perspectives.
I haven’t heard of any methanol supply line for the reactor; only an alcohol washing line has been mentioned. Please let the original poster share their insights, thank you.
It doesn’t seem to be called a methanol supplementation line; ours is connected to the inlet pipeline of the reactor.
The methanol feed line should be located in front of the catalytic distillation tower and behind the reactor; this is to prevent MTBE in the catalytic distillation tower from being re-fragmented into methanol and isobutylene as it passes through the catalyst layer. I’m not sure without a catalytic distillation tower
Why add methanol as well? I don’t understand. Originally, when C4 and methanol entered the reactor through the mixer, methanol was in excess. . . Do you mean by adding methanol that the water in the catalyst should be replaced with methanol before driving? . . .
The catalytic distillation column is equipped with a methanol feed line, which is used to react with unreacted isobutylene in order to increase its conversion rate; it is employed when the catalyst activity in the reactor is insufficient or the alcohol-to-olefin ratio is low.
