Is it necessary to use diesel during the first start-up of a vacuum distillation unit? Is there any that goes directly to crude oil?
The general purpose of oil transportation is to remove water and impurities, as well as to test the performance of instruments and valves. When using crude oil directly, it is difficult to achieve the goal of removing water and impurities

Not necessarily! I have operated many atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, and the vast majority of them were put into operation with crude oil right after transportation and pressure testing.

There’s no need for that; maybe just crude oil directly
Newly commissioned units must undergo water testing first, followed by oil testing; this helps to reduce pollution caused by leaks, and there is no need to use diesel for testing
We haven’t heard of any diesel transportation here either; we use water-based transportation as well, and after identifying any gaps we address them to further improve the process flow. Once that’s done, we can start using crude oil for operations!
A diesel test run is necessary for the first start-up, but it’s not required thereafter!
