Crude methanol contains less than 10% light components and about 10% heavy components, as well as some solid substances dissolved in it. Continuous distillation using two columns is employed; the pre-column is used primarily to remove the light components. A filler tower with a capacity of 400 is used, and the fillers are made of stainless steel corrugated mesh. Question: Could the tower get clogged? Can a tower with a capacity of 400 be adequately wetted?
This post was last edited by zhanbob on 2009-8-15 at 10:45. Without even knowing the feed rate, which is the most fundamental requirement for evaluating whether a tower can wet (i.e., its hydrodynamic properties), how can I help answer your question?
It depends on the properties of the solid substance. It usually doesn’t get clogged; the mesh is checked during the annual maintenance. If coking occurs, clean it promptly.
