This post was last edited by zzuwangshilei on 2010-6-21 09:09; the version of Aspen Plus V7.0 is 22.0. How can I make it possible to open older versions of files, such as 11.1, with the new version? Thank you. Because V7 is used, but if others are on an older version, the connection always fails. As of August 5, 2009, the solutions are as follows: 1. If it’s for learning purposes only, use version 11.1 or a slightly higher version, as this makes it easier to communicate with others; my Aspen should be set back to version 2006. 2. Files saved in BKP format generally have better compatibility, but they are not very suitable for V7. 3. The method of manually changing the file’s version information is not recommended. Finally, thank you all for your replies; they provided many solutions to the problem
Saving it as a BKP file and then modifying the version information might allow it to be opened in lower versions; Or output it as an inp file. But new physical properties, new components, or new functions definitely cannot be used

Saving as methanol distillation column simulation.bkp is possible, but it is indicated that calculation results from previous versions are no longer supported. I used someone else’s .apt file for a methanol distillation column simulation in version 20.0, and then saved it in version 22.0. I still don’t know if lower-version devices can open it; if I get the chance, I’ll try using a device with a lower version of the Plus model.
2# *ayh126: After saving my 2008 version of the Aspen Plus file in BKP format, I’m still unable to open it in older versions of the software. The 2006 version cannot open the 2008 version’s Plus file. On another computer, the following error message appears: \"The following errors were encountered reading from a backup file: This file was created with a newer version (22.0) of Aspen Plus and is not compatible with the current version (20.0). Open backup failed due to error shown above. The data for current run may be corrupted.\"
BKP file: When this option is selected, ASPEN PLUS creates a *.apw document file; at the same time, it generates a *.bkp file in ASPEN PLUS’s backup format as an additional backup mechanism. The *.apw document file is stored in binary format, allowing for quick startup of the previously saved simulation. The *.bkp file, on the other hand, uses a compact ASCII file format to store the same operational information
Here is a suggestion: Set the version in the 2008 version before storing it. I know that the database version in 11.1 can be customized; I haven’t explored customization options for other versions either. Wishing you success.

I’m not entirely sure; I only know that there is one material property database available: see the image below. Could the original poster please send a screenshot and explain how to set up different versions of the database? Thanks first. Additionally: 1. \"Set the version in the 2008 version, then save it.\" I’m not quite sure what you mean. Could we communicate? My QQ number is 584084063. 2. \"The database version in 11.1 can be customized.\" Could you send a screenshot or some instructions on how to do this?
The simplest way to enable the higher version is to open the .bkp file using Notepad, and then change the information indicating the higher version in the first line of that Notepad file to the version installed on your computer. For example, by changing 22.0 to 11.1 and then opening it normally, it will be possible to open files of the higher version. Of course, the substance database may need to be reset after it is opened.
I checked again; the method I mentioned is not appropriate. AspenV7 uses new methods and new property parameters, and if you use those, even if you manage to open it with an older version, you probably won’t be able to get it to run.

Significant changes have taken place in the database settings of AspenV7; I’m not sure if changes have also occurred in aspects such as data processing methods. I’m hoping for better solutions. If it’s only for learning purposes, using 11.1 makes it easier to communicate with others; in that case I should have gone back to version 2006.
