Never take action without instructions, as no one can afford to take responsibility for such actions. Even if there are instructions, it’s not acceptable to act blindly or fail to act at all
If it is before establishing the methanol cycle, it is important to analyze the oxygen content in the system before introducing methanol; it is also advisable to determine the water content by measuring the dew point. Before establishing a circulation cycle, it is necessary to verify the valves; the high-pressure area must first be pressurized to above 4.0 MPa to ensure that a circulation cycle can be established. It is very important to confirm the valves, so as to avoid confusion before starting the circulation for the first time. The manual valves on site must not have any limiting functions; all control should be carried out from the control room, which helps to reduce a lot of unnecessary repetitive work.
The effects of the methanol circulation rate and circulation temperature on the outlet composition can be simply understood as the mutual influences among temperature, pressure, flow rate, and composition; once these are understood, there’s not much else to consider. The key to studying chemical engineering is to have one’s own approach; otherwise, you might be able to memorize all the instruments associated with each drain valve, but when something goes wrong, you won’t know where to start analyzing it. Be diligent in thinking; everything around you can be a source of knowledge. Also, don’t focus solely on the unit you are studying; if you have time, it’s better to take a close look at the preceding and subsequent units as well. Those who do not plan for the future will surely face problems soon. Often, issues arise from sources outside that particular unit, and if you don’t understand those aspects, it will be difficult to handle things properly. For example, sudden increases or decreases in the load of the vaporization furnace, as well as the temperature and pressure at the outlet, can affect your operations. Even if you can’t delve into detailed studies, it’s still a good idea to have some basic understanding of other processes as well

Many new issues arise during operation, but the fundamental principles remain the same: it is essential to maintain proper control of the low temperature, and at the same time, effective control over the regeneration of methanol is also necessary.
