Is it possible to clean the gasifier?

Our company has two small gasification units that use propane as the fuel. After long periods of operation, the water coming out of the coils is black in color. How can these coils be cleaned? We approached a company specialized in gas handling to help with the cleaning, but they were unable to guarantee the quality of the cleaning. Is it really that difficult to clean these gasification units? These two have only been in use for 2 years as well
