Fellow sailors, what is the size of your separation tanks? What kind of filter elements do you use? Have you noticed in actual use how effective the separation tank before the compressor really is? How much water can be separated out?
We have installed a pre-compressor cooler in front of the compressor; it serves to cool and separate the water contained in the crude vinyl chloride gas, and its volume is approximately 5-6 cubic meters.
The pre-machine cooler is useful; there is plenty of water. Water separation before the machine is almost ineffective. There is little water in winter, and practically no water in summer
The separator tank in front of the compressor primarily serves to separate liquid water and prevent large amounts of it from entering the compressor, thereby protecting it. But it is difficult for a large amount of water to enter the compressor; it doesn’t need to be a very large volume, as long as there is space for separation and the water can be drained promptly. So instead of installing a separate separation tank now, we will create a separation space of less than 1 cubic meter in the pre-machine cooler, and configuring automatic level control will suffice.
The gas entering the vinyl chloride compressor should be as pure as possible; gases such as water and hydrogen chloride are somewhat corrosive to the compressor components, and it’s only a matter of time before damage occurs. To ensure the service life of compressors, it is recommended that manufacturers use pre-separation devices. Unites has installed a pre-filter at the air intake side of the machine; it is a stainless steel wire mesh nearly one meter thick that can capture some impurities. Furthermore, the filtration precision of the air intake filter is increased to 1μm in order to extend the service life of the machine head. The main cost of vinyl chloride compressors lies in the compressor head, so it is particularly important to protect this component; it is recommended that chlor-alkali manufacturers carry out pre-compression treatments.
It is recommended to install a mist catcher in front of the machine, as this has a significant impact on the quality of the compressor and the monomers.
Its main function is to separate liquid water. It has little effect on the separation of vaporized water.
The ideal situation is one without liquid water; however, exceptions do exist. We have indeed found liquid water in chlor-alkali plants, and it has a significant impact on the lifespan of filters. Once such liquid water overcomes the filters, it can also cause fatal damage to the equipment. In Hengyang Jiantao, there was the concern that the filter might break through recently and enter the main unit, causing damage to the machine head. It is recommended to use the traditional method and install a demister in front of the compressor. It will provide protection for compressors of any brand.

The pre-compressor cooler is primarily used to remove entrained water; if not handled properly, it can have a significant impact on the compressor. Our compressors use piston compressors with a capacity of 100 m3/h. Since the purification unit may contain some alkaline substances, if proper pre-treatment is not carried out, heating in the compressor can lead to the formation of alkaline powder inside the compressor cylinders, which directly affects the lifespan of the compressor’s piston rings.
Although the amount of water separated out is not much, it is definitely useful. The presence of the separator plays a significant role in protecting the compressor; we have already paid a high price for that! ! !
