About 1.2 tons of steam are consumed per ton of methanol.
The specific water consumption per unit of methanol cannot be generalized, as differences in raw materials, process routes, or the type of heat exchangers used in synthesis, distillation, and compression processes (shell-and-tube vs. air-cooled) result in significant variations in water usage among different facilities. For most units, the specific consumption of fresh water is around 10–13 tons, while the specific consumption of steam is around 1.0–1.2 tons.
Our plant has an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons; it consumes 310–320 tons of recycled water per ton of methanol, and 0.65–0.72 tons of fresh water per ton of methanol
