Fertilizer wastewater treatment takes place in Tank A; it generally needs to be hermetically sealed due to anaerobic conditions. Can methane be produced in Tank A?
In the A/O process, there must be a return flow from the O tank to the A tank; the main chemical reaction that takes place is BOD + NO3/NO2 → N2 + CO2 + H2O, so methane is not produced
The A stage of the A/O process generally remains in the initial anaerobic phase, namely the hydrolysis-acidification stage, and does not enter the methanogenesis phase; therefore, methane is not produced in the A stage of the A/O process. This refers to the normal operating conditions; however, if there are abnormalities, methane production can still occur. For example, if there is short-circuiting in the tank or if it is not in use for an extended period of time, the possibility of methane generation is quite high due to the sufficient hydraulic retention time. But as long as the design is sound and the pipes are constructed and installed properly with normal operation, such a situation will not arise.
