In order to promote understanding of the hazards and disposal measures of liquid ammonia, this article introduces basic knowledge in four aspects: physical and chemical properties of liquid ammonia, poisoning disposal, leakage disposal and combustion and explosion disposal. 1. Skin and Eye Contact Low concentrations of ammonia can rapidly cause irritation to eyes and moist skin. Contact with wet skin or eyes with high concentrations of ammonia can cause severe chemical burns. Skin contact can cause severe pain and burns, and coffee-like discoloration can occur. The corroded parts are gelatinous and soft, and deep tissue damage can occur. (3) First aid measures 1. Decontamination If the patient is exposed to ammonia only and has no symptoms of skin or eye irritation, decontamination is not required. If you are exposed to liquid ammonia and your clothes are contaminated, take off your clothes and put them in a double plastic bag. If there is eye contact or eye irritation, rinse with plenty of water or saline for more than 20 minutes. If blepharospasm occurs during flushing, slowly instill 1 to 2 drops of 0.4% oxybuvacaine and continue flushing thoroughly. If the patient wears contact lenses that are easy to remove without damaging the eyes, the contact lenses should be removed. Flush the exposed skin and hair with plenty of water for more than 15 minutes. Take care to protect your eyes when washing your skin and hair. 3. Leakage disposal 1. Evacuate all personnel within the minor spill area. Protect against breathing vapors and contact with liquids or gases. Handlers should use respirators. Avoid entering confined spaces where ammonia may collect and increase ventilation. Leakage can only be plugged when safety is ensured. Leaking containers should be moved to a safe area and valves should only be opened to relieve pressure when safety is ensured. Inert absorbent materials such as sand and vermiculite can be used to collect and absorb leaks. Collected spills should be placed in appropriately labeled closed containers for disposal. 2. For large leaks, evacuate all unprotected personnel in the area and move upwind. Personnel handling leaks should wear full protective clothing and respiratory equipment. After cleaning, decontaminate all protective clothing and equipment before storage and reuse. 15. Effects on health after breathing: Breathing methanol vapor has the following effects: - headache. Rebreathing methanol vapor can cause accumulation due to slow elimination from the body. environmental hazards: Prevent materials from flowing into drainage ditches and water sources. First aid measures Skin contact: Rinse skin directly with plenty of water, preferably in the shower.
