May I ask: Can an ethanol tank be placed in a warehouse with a fire resistance rating of grade 2? If not, what is the basis? Thank you!
Are you a storage tank or a barrel? If it’s a Class A storage tank, why is it placed indoors?
It’s not possible. According to fire safety regulations, there must be fire dikes around the storage tanks. Can you meet these requirements in your warehouse? Moreover, an explosion of the ethanol tank would destroy the warehouse building, and could even affect other buildings and people; these factors make it impossible to place storage tanks inside warehouses
I don’t think it’s possible! The general layout cannot be arranged. How to set up the pump? How to set up a flexible hose? How to build a fire dike? How to set up alarm detection? How to ventilate? . . . There are many problems. Looking for reasons why it’s not allowed is like a driver driving a car – there’s no law that prohibits using the left foot to press the accelerator and the right foot to press the clutch ; There is no law either that prohibits driving with the neck tilted or the face turned to the side, but it goes against common practice. o(∩_∩)o...
Apart from the layout issues, does the building’s fire resistance rating comply with the Building Code?
They are all included in these building codes; you can simply compare them with the standards set out in those codes based on the actual conditions of your facility.
Why are barrel-shaped tanks acceptable, while individual storage tanks are not? (The main reason is the lack of available space within the factory area; if they are placed outdoors, there isn’t enough fire separation distance.) Moreover, if there is sufficient space in the warehouse, fire dikes can be built around them, and with good ventilation, it should be possible to use them. Additionally, they provide better sun shading compared to outdoor storage tanks. The key is that there are no specific regulations governing this; if it is determined solely based on individual opinions, I believe that since everyone’s views differ, a unified decision cannot be reached.
As you said, the warehouse is big enough to make the arrangements. But how should the fire compartments in Class A warehouses be arranged? How can it be satisfied? Even if it could be met, this warehouse would lose its purpose as a warehouse. How should fire protection pipes be installed? Where are the fire hydrants? Full of contradictions.

Storage tanks should be stored outdoors, with fire dikes installed as required; storage inside is not permitted.

I’ve seen many pharmaceutical factories store ethanol in tanks indoors, in a separate corner of the workshop, within an open underground tank; the local fire department didn’t raise any objections either. However, these storage tanks are relatively small, usually only 10 cubic meters, with some being as small as 5 cubic meters.
