I have a question: I have graduated with a master’s degree in chemical engineering and am currently working on pilot-scale equipment for use in the chemical industry – equipment that covers most types of devices used in this field. I believe my theoretical knowledge is solid, but I feel that I lack practical experience; I’m not sure what it’s like inside a chemical plant I always stutter when communicating with Party A. Now that I’m working, I want to go to the factory to gain more experience, but I’m not sure if there are any good ways to improve my practical skills – do any of you have any suggestions?
The best way to practice something is to do it yourself, once or several times – there are things that can’t be explained simply!
Chemical engineering knowledge covers so much that it’s impossible for anyone to understand everything. Colleagues who have just started working, especially those with a higher level of education, should be humble and eager to learn, but at the same time they should also be confident. Is it best for chemical engineering graduates to work on the production floor for two or three years first, before considering further career advancement? Although the equipment we produce nowadays are all small in size (with a tower diameter of less than 100 mm), we still feel overwhelmed when it comes to on-site construction! ! There are always unforeseen factors; staying on site for ten days, twenty days, or a month can be extremely frustrating. If, on top of that, you have to deal with a demanding client, it’s absolutely exhausting! ! !
Those working in engineering mostly communicate with external parties and build relationships. Before starting the work, ask them humbly about their process requirements and other construction specifications.
