The most toxic substance in acid gas stripping and sulfur recovery units is hydrogen sulfide; it is highly toxic, colorless and odorless at high concentrations, can cause immediate loss of consciousness, and prompt treatment is essential to avoid death in case of poisoning. Workers must wear qualified gas masks, be equipped with life belts, and communication alarm devices should be in place; additionally, someone should monitor from outside the hazardous area. Attention should also be paid to proper ventilation at the site and the availability of rescue equipment. Before starting work, preventive and first-aid training as well as pre-job health checks must be conducted ；
There are many sources of hydrogen sulfide leaks, and no matter how much effort is put into prevention and control, oversights can still occur. For production facilities, closed-system production is now the standard approach; efforts should be focused on design, renovation, construction quality, and the elimination of potential hazards. Solve the problem at its root. Pay special attention to monitoring those parts that are prone to corrosion, set up appropriate alarm systems, and carry out necessary upgrades to the materials used in the equipment. During maintenance, the parts that have thinned due to corrosion are replaced. Waiting until a leak occurs before trying to find a solution is simply the last resort.
When the wind is strong, it is relatively safe; when the wind is weak, extra caution is needed. It is best for two people to enter the area together, to maintain a safety distance of 5 meters, and to wear protective gear.
