Why do certified safety engineers in the United States hold such a high status? The whole world recognizes this! However, it’s not easy to become one of them – high standards are required in terms of both technical skills and management abilities. Not to mention the exams, and the requirements for maintaining these qualifications are even stricter. Perhaps we can learn from some of the more mature systems related to certified safety professionals. It is hoped that by making full use of their expertise, we can reduce accidents and bring benefits to the people of our country! Those who already have these certificates should continue to study and practice diligently; certified safety professionals can achieve great things, and EHS professionals can achieve even greater things. But it’s essential to improve one’s English skills as well! Introduction to certified safety engineers in the United States: The organization responsible for implementing the certification system for safety engineers in the U.S. is the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). This association was founded on October 14, 1911, in New York. Its main role is to develop and enforce relevant safety standards and regulations. The professional registration tasks handled by ASSE include those for safety professionals such as occupational safety engineers, bioengineers, and safety technology specialists; as well as fire engineers, system security experts, and occupational health nurses. In the United States, a registered safety engineer is a symbol of status and serves as proof of qualification for seeking jobs, applying for research funding, providing safety consulting, participating in safety assessments, and conducting engineering evaluations. The U.S. Certified Safety Engineer program requires applicants to submit their applications on a self-declaration basis. This means that applicants must fill out an application form, describe their work experience and achievements in the field of safety, and submit relevant documents along with recommendation letters from industry experts. Furthermore, this system requires professionals in safety engineering to provide accurate and comprehensive information when submitting applications; once such applications are approved, they must continue to receive training and development, and records are kept by the registration authority. The registration authority is responsible for providing registered professionals with industry-related regulations and standards. Registered persons who provide false information during registration, or use their registered status to violate professional ethics codes in pursuit of commercial goals or other benefits, fail to pay the required fees on time, are prosecuted for violating the law, or breach the discipline rules for registered persons, will be removed from the registry. Currently, there are approximately 30,000 registered safety engineers across the United States, working in industrial systems, departments, associations, and research institutions to carry out management and technical consulting tasks related to safety, health, and environmental protection. Take the United States, Germany, and China as examples: In the United States, the exam to become a certified safety engineer costs $10,000, while registration itself requires $50,000; the requirements are quite stringent. In Germany, there are 12 industries that employ certified safety engineers as a support for safety-related activities, with the most experienced of these engineers serving as key technical personnel in those firms. In China, they are not called certified safety engineers but rather certified safety supervisors. To become such a supervisor, one must first have a bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field, at least five years of work experience, as well as a master’s degree; out of 50,000 people who meet these criteria, only around 2,000 obtain the qualification to work as certified safety supervisors
