I am not involved in non-destructive testing; my job requires me to develop a non-destructive testing procedure. I have some questions and would appreciate guidance on how to understand the term \"effective focal size\" and what its numerical value represents. Illustration for explanation. Diameter 650mm, plate thickness 8mm – how should L1 and L3 be filled in?

It is a characteristic parameter of the X-ray machine itself, and is independent of the workpiece. You can check the manual of the radiography machine you are using; it will be there. Additionally, it should be noted that without a qualification certificate at level 2 or above in non-destructive testing, one is not eligible to develop non-destructive testing procedures. The overall non-destructive testing procedure documents for the unit need to be prepared by personnel at level 3. Invalid if written by unqualified persons.
What was said upstairs is absolutely correct. However, it seems that personnel at level II can prepare the overall non-destructive testing procedure documents for the unit.
