It’s a liquid redistributor, I guess; the main concern is that the liquid might not flow evenly when it enters the heat exchanger
During cooling or pressurization of a saturated gas, some of the condensable gas components form small liquid droplets that flow along with the gas. The function of a gas-liquid separator is to treat gases containing a small amount of condensate, thereby enabling the recovery of the condensate or the purification of the gas phase.
Installing a gas-liquid separator when making a condenser is mainly to separate the small amount of gas entrained in the condensed liquid
The gas does not condense completely into a liquid; instead, it separates into liquid and gas phases, exiting from the bottom of the equipment via the gas-liquid separator you mentioned. A cooler is not needed.
