Our plant’s concentration and acid supplementation system has a low amount of acid added and low heat exchange efficiency; we intend to modify the low-level flash vessel. The heat exchange area of the graphite heat exchanger is 160 m2. Could you advise on what size flash vessel would be appropriate?

Calculate it theoretically: determine the heat transfer amount based on your heat transfer area and heat transfer coefficient; the latent heat of vaporization of water is available, so the amount of water that evaporates can be calculated. Using an empirical value for the flash evaporation rate of around 700–1000 Kg/m2·h, the area can be determined, and from that, the diameter of the straight section can be calculated.
