In fixed-bed batch gas production, the steam decomposition rate is higher upward than downward. Why?
After blowing air, the upper blowing phase begins; at this stage the temperature in the gasification layer inside the furnace is at its highest, and the rate of steam decomposition is also highest. As gas production continues, the temperature in the gasification layer gradually decreases, and so does the rate of steam decomposition. The lower blowing phase takes place after the upper blowing phase, and both the rate of steam decomposition and the quality of the gas produced are significantly lower compared to those during the upper blowing phase.
