There is currently a centrifugal pump that uses the medium being transported to cool the mechanical seal, and leaks occur quite quickly. After making certain modifications, is it possible to switch to a mechanical seal that uses external cooling water?

It is also possible to use external cooling; it depends on what process medium you are transporting First, determine the cause of the leakage – whether the medium being transported is able to cool the mechanical seal sufficiently (the purpose of cooling is to keep the mechanical seal cool at high speeds, thereby protecting wear-resistant materials such as silicon carbide from wearing out). The pumps with higher temperatures in our factory are cooled by the medium within their own structure, while the return cooling section is cooled from the outside, which ensures that the temperature remains within an appropriate range. Secondly, if you want to switch to external cooling, that’s also possible, but the temperature difference should not be too large (as it affects the performance of the metal); it simply involves changing to an external cooling mechanism. At the end of the dynamic sealing phase, 5 drops per minute or less is sufficient.
It is possible, but be aware that if external cooling water is used for sealing, the high pressure of this sealing water means that in the event of a leak in the seal, it could enter the medium inside the pump. Therefore, the medium being transported should be able to accommodate water without causing any issues related to safety or quality.

It is definitely possible to make modifications. I have previously modified IS pumps by removing the outer sealing chamber completely, and then fixing it according to the mounting method of the static ring seal cover; it is possible to drill threads or use pins for fixation. The dynamic ring is fixed to the shaft sleeve, and once the clearance is adjusted properly, the system will work fine. Since we are transporting clean water, a set of mechanical seals can last for 5 years. Wish you success!

The conveying medium is 50% alkaline solution; the outer wall of the tank is equipped with an insulation layer, and there are specified requirements regarding the temperature of the material. 2. Sometimes it takes a longer time to run the internal circulation, analyze the concentration, and then add alkali. 3. Using cooling water will inevitably cause the temperature of the alkali to drop further; in winter, this can lead to crystallization and even blockages.
