Taiwan has the best technology for potassium sulfate production; how far has technological development in this area progressed in China? Those who are aware of this situation please offer some guidance.

Jointly established by domestic companies and Taiwan’s Qingshang Chemical Factory Co., Ltd., these plants were built using the Mannheim process for the production of potassium sulfate. Since their construction in 1993 in Tianjin (in partnership with Tianjin Sulfuric Acid Factory), Panjin (in partnership with Panjin Fertilizer Factory), and Shandong (in partnership with Junan Phosphate Fertilizer Factory), dozens more such facilities have been set up in cities such as Kaifeng, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Zhuzhou, Yichang, Zunyi, and Foshan. These facilities have played a significant role in addressing the domestic supply issue of potassium fertilizers, especially chlorine-free potassium fertilizers. However, with advancements in domestic technology and the commissioning of Sinosteel Xinjiang Potash, and given that the raw material required for this process – potassium chloride – is monopolized by countries such as Canada, Russia, Israel, and Jordan, resulting in high prices, this process has essentially fulfilled its historical role. At present, many companies are shut down. This production technology and equipment were fully localized (produced in the mainland) around 1997.
