What is the inlet pressure of air in the tower under external pressure conditions? I have been working with internal pressure processes, and all I know is about full low pressure, medium pressure, medium-high pressure, etc. Is there also a difference between external pressure and internal pressure (total vacuum) in the pressure of the gas entering the tower? A few days ago I attended an interview and was asked questions; I felt like I never really understood what was being asked of me, which was frustrating. Have you all heard of the external pressure air separation system used in synthetic methanol production? In the fully low-pressure external pressure process, the inlet pressure of air to the tower is 0.5 MP; of course, there is a difference between the external pressure and the internal pressure with respect to the pressure of the gas entering the tower. I’ve never heard of full-low-pressure external pressure air separation systems with pressures above 4.0 Mpa.
In full-low-pressure air separation units, the outlet pressure of the air compressors is generally around 0.52 Mpa; the pressure in the lower column is around 0.45 Mpa, while the pressure in the upper column is around 0.045 Mpa. I’ve never seen such a high overall pressure of 4 Mpa; is there an error in the data or did you hear it wrong?

Whether it is external pressure or internal compression has nothing to do with the pressure entering the tower; what’s important is the choice and arrangement of the process flow. As mentioned above, for air separation using external pressure, the pressure entering the tower is around 0.5 MPa, while for air separation using internal pressure, there can be many different values for the pressure entering the tower
