The raw material we use for hydrogen production is catalytic dry gas. Since this gas serves as the fuel for the entire plant, its supply is somewhat limited. Currently, we have an excess of propane gas from gas separation, and we are considering mixing some of this propane gas into the feed used for hydrogen production. Will the addition of propane gas have a significant impact on the operation? What is the maximum doping percentage? Our capacity is 10,000 cubic meters per hour; we use the hydrocarbon steam reforming + PSA process, and we have a feedstock furnace, as well as temperature-variable + adiabatic hydrogenation reactors... Currently, we produce 4.3 tons per hour of catalytic dry gas. Our propane gas capacity is up to 1.4 tons per hour. I would appreciate your advice! !
We use coker dry gas here, with a propane content of around 10%. In conversion reactions, the equilibrium for hydrocarbons with a higher number of carbon atoms is high, resulting in complete conversion. More doping can be considered, but attention should be paid to the issue of catalytic coking.
By using up all 1.4 tons per hour of propane gas, the theoretical hydrogen production rate is 5,200 cubic meters per hour; the amount of hydrogen supplied should be 1.5 times that amount. If the hydrogen compressor has sufficient capacity, it will be possible to use up all the propane gas.
We use liquid hydrocarbons containing 27% propane

By writing out the chemical equations based on the reaction equations and then performing calculations, the results can be obtained; however, in practice there is an issue with conversion rates, as not everything can be converted............

The raw material used in my current production is basically propane. The amount of hydrogen supplied to the conversion catalysts of type Z417/Z418 is determined based on the sulfur content and olefin content in the feedstock. At present, my plant requires 160 cubic meters of recycled hydrogen per ton of propane processed. Of course, adding more hydrogen is harmless.

The catalytic dry gas is compressed by a compressor to increase its pressure; propane becomes liquid at a pressure of 2.5 MPA. Can propane be pumped into the inlet of the feed furnace and mixed with the catalytic dry gas? Can gas and liquid mix evenly? Does it have an impact on the conversion catalyst? Is propane used as the raw material for all of your equipment? If propane is used as a backup raw material, is it still necessary to install a propane buffer tank in the facility? Thank you! !
Propane can be added; there’s no problem with that. If there are two types of catalysts in the conversion tube, no adjustments to the operation are required. If there is only one type of natural gas conversion catalyst in the conversion tube, it is necessary to increase the water-to-carbon ratio appropriately.
