Alcohol alkylation process

The new alcohol alkylation unit installed in our factory is experiencing poor heat exchange performance in the high-pressure alcohol outlet water cooler due to water quality issues! Currently, the outlet temperature is around 60°C, which results in poor alcohol separation! All of it is taken to the alkane tower; I wonder what damage that might cause to the tower? Please give me some advice!
A high methanol content can poison the methanation catalyst and lead to increased wear and tear. N2 can be connected to the water inlet of the water cooler; when the effect is not satisfactory, using N2 for online flushing can yield some results.
Does the poisoning mentioned by the poster refer to the impact on the catalyst’s activity? Could there be any side effects? ?
