Our company produces 150,000 tons of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda, and the height of the bubble column is nearly 20 meters. What should be the head rating of the concentrated sulfuric acid metering pump used to feed acid into the bubble column? An approximate value will do. Thank you

Based on the owner’s caustic soda production capacity and the height of the bubble column, the suitable metering pump has a measurement range of 0-250 L/H (flow rate) and a pressure tolerance range of 0-0.5 MPa (head)
The specific gravity of concentrated sulfuric acid is 1.84*20m=36.8m; adding the resistance in the pipes, I think a head pressure of 55-60m should be sufficient
I agree with what was said above; it mainly depends on the manufacturer’s processing conditions, as well as the process settings.
The head isn’t a problem; it’s just that I’m not sure what flow rate you have designed for. Is there pressure inside your tower?
Based on the analyses from those above, the metering pump model we should use is the JML-X250/1.25 hydraulic diaphragm metering pump; its maximum pressure is 1.25, so it’s sufficient to supply fluid to two towers as well.
Metering pumps are generally specified in terms of flow rate, with head being mentioned less often. Generally speaking, 0.1 MPA of pressure is equivalent to a water head of 10 meters; for sulfuric acid, the conversion needs to be done based on its specific gravity. In the chemical industry, metering pumps are generally mostly from Mettler Toledo. Many models can meet the requirements.
I agree with what was said on the 4th floor: the specific gravity of concentrated sulfuric acid is 1.84, so 1.84 * 20 m = 36.8 m. The pressure inside the tower can be ignored (7–9 KPa). Taking into account the resistance in the pipes as well, a head of 55–60 m can be used. Our company originally used metering pumps, but they were not effective; therefore we switched to using a high-level tank instead.
