Should a lightning arrester be installed on the power supply of the control cabinet?

Due to thundering, many channels in the card connectors were damaged; the enclosure on site has been grounded, as has the control cabinet, and we are currently investigating the cause.
The lightning protection in place isn’t very good; we’ve had problems where the transmitters on site were damaged. There are issues with the grounding of the pipes and the equipment itself
We’ve set it up here, and the results are pretty good.
I encountered similar problems at my previous workplace. Later, we installed surge protectors both at the site and on the DCS, and things improved a lot. Of course, doing it all would be very costly, so we selected some important circuits and added protectors to them
Add surge protection, safety barrier, and cabinet grounding. That’s what I usually see.
