In the production of sodium thiosulfate using the formic acid method, the side reaction that occurs during the synthesis of sodium thiosulfate – namely the decomposition of sodium thiosulfate – results in the formation of sodium thiosulfate. The rate of this side reaction depends not only on the ratio of alcohol to water, the pH value, and the reaction temperature, but also on the concentration of sodium thiosulfate in the mother liquor; the higher the concentration of sodium thiosulfate in the mother liquor, the faster the decomposition of sodium thiosulfate takes place. Typically, EO is added to the synthetic mother liquor, where it undergoes a ring-opening reaction with sodium thiosulfate to form bentonite salts, thereby keeping the concentration of sodium thiosulfate in the mother liquor at a low level (4.43 g/L). This reduces the decomposition rate of hydrosulfite during the synthesis process, thus enabling an increase in the yield of hydrosulfite. Currently, the EO consumption in the production of sodium formate-based safety powder is estimated to be 24–26 kg per ton, but it is said that some manufacturers use only around 19 kg. Experts in safety powder production, apart from the factors mentioned above, what other methods can be used to reduce EO consumption?
This can be used as a reference! Ethylene oxide in controlling side reactions in the synthesis of safety powder: A theoretical study. Using the density functional theory B3LYP method and the self-consistent equal-density PCM model, and under the 6-311G(d) basis set conditions, the main reactions in which ethylene oxide participates in the production of safety powder were studied, with a systematic analysis of the fate of ethylene oxide. This paper first analyzes the thermodynamic and kinetic principles behind the use of ethylene oxide to control the sodium thiosulfate content, as well as the reactivity of various nucleophiles present in the system, and then... d.wanfangdata.com.cn/Periodical_jsjyyyhx2 ... 19K 2009-8-18 - Baidu snapshot
