I would like to ask everyone: our company has recently purchased a shipment of sulfuric acid for use in alkali solution regeneration. I want to know what its function is. We use plastic pumps and plastic pipes to transport it, and I feel that this isn’t safe. I also want to know what should be done if human skin comes into contact with sulfuric acid. What is the role of sulfuric acid in the petroleum industry? What material should be used to transport it safely? How should we operate it to ensure safety?

Properties of sulfuric acid: strong water absorption and strong corrosiveness； Transportation of sulfuric acid: Cast iron pipes and specialized pumps for concentrated sulfuric acid are used for this purpose. There are many manufacturers of such pumps, so they are easily available. Plastic pipes and pumps can also be used, but the pipes must be strong enough to prevent them from breaking and causing the acid to spill and injure people, which would create problems. Additionally, workers should wear helmets and long-sleeved clothing to avoid eye injuries; while burns in other areas aren’t a major issue, eye injuries can be serious. There should also be emergency spray nozzles and emergency water tanks; in case of an incident, jump into the tank or use plenty of water to clean the area – there’s no need to worry. If a small amount of sulfuric acid gets on your clothes, just rinse it off immediately.

If skin comes into contact with sulfuric acid, it should be wiped off immediately with cotton cloth, followed by rinsing with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes before seeking medical attention.
