I work in instrumentation. When determining the layout of instruments, what requirements does the process engineering department need to provide? Besides the pipe port layout diagram, pipeline layout diagram, and equipment layout diagram of the equipment, are there any other requirements related to the process? For the elevation of pipes and equipment, should it be referenced to the elevation of their foundations or to the horizontal ground level? How is the elevation of a double-flange differential pressure level transmitter determined? Is the elevation of the lower flange used to represent the elevation of the entire double-flange differential pressure level transmitter?
This requirement should be put forward by the piping specialists. If they create 2D pipe layout drawings, those drawings will show the exact locations of the instruments, and we just need to place the corresponding icons there. If they use PDS for the pipe design, they need to provide us with the coordinates of the instruments on the pipes; we then use these coordinates to locate the appropriate points on the equipment layout diagram. For double-flange level gauges, we only need to indicate the elevation of the transmitter, as the flanges are already attached to the equipment, and since holes have been pre-made in the equipment, no further markings are required.

It is necessary to clarify what the medium is, its temperature, and the elevation, with the design zero point specified in the drawings serving as a reference. This zero point may be the ground level at the construction site or some other reference surface; it is therefore necessary to check the drawings carefully. The elevation of the level gauge should be calculated based on the centerline of the gauge, and it is not necessarily indicated by the elevation of the flange below it.
In addition to the pipeline layout diagram, a layout diagram of the equipment platform is also required. Because you need to install junction boxes, emergency stop buttons, and things of that kind, which are usually placed on the edge of the platform, in places that are easily accessible. The center elevation of the transmitter is generally 1.2 meters above the platform (or ground). The elevation on pipes and equipment is referenced to the horizontal ground level. The elevations of both pipe ends of the double-flange transmitter must be indicated.
The piping diagram is sufficient; the elevation of the transmitter is generally one meter above the platform, or 1.2 meters above the horizontal ground level. A double-flange level gauge requires the elevation of both levels to be indicated, while a single-flange gauge only needs one elevation to be marked
