Why is the valve seat so dirty? What medium is it?
OP, thanks for sharing! In the picture, the valves you’re referring to are probably the exhaust valve and the compressor cylinder. The surface is rough and covered in rust, which indicates that the working environment is not good. In addition, there are scratches on the inner wall of the cylinder liner, likely due to dirty process air or inadequate lubrication. Aside: Many reciprocating compressors now come equipped with oil injectors, but those that require high hydrogen purity generally do not have such injectors. For heavy-duty, high-temperature compressors, an oil injector must be installed to ensure an adequate amount of oil is supplied.
