The company is currently under major repairs; what should be done regarding the severe corrosion of the sealing surfaces on the heat exchanger nozzles? The inner edge is no longer smooth, and there are two shallow pits the size of soybeans in the middle of the sealing surface’s surface. What should be done? ? ? ? Thank you. Should we re-machine the sealing surface, or weld it and then grind it? The equipment operator said it didn’t matter; the pressure was very low. It’s urgent! ! ! ! Thank you all
It’s too troublesome to re-machine the sealing surface; it involves a lot of work. It’s better to weld it back first and then smooth it out; a grinder will do.
Our company has also welded aluminum blocks into some heat exchangers that are severely corroded, claiming that this can help prevent corrosion; let’s see if this method works
What material are your devices made of? ? ? The weld rings of our titanium equipment are made of titanium-palladium alloy, which effectively prevents intergranular corrosion
If the medium is non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-corrosive, and the sealing surfaces provide adequate sealing, no treatment may be necessary.
It’s more reasonable to re-machine it; if no treatment such as surfacing or grinding is carried out, it will be very troublesome to deal with the issue once sealing fails. Moreover, you are during a major overhaul, so you have time to take care of this. Don’t worry!
The method mentioned on the 3rd floor is cathodic protection using a sacrificial anode; this method can protect the pipe box section, but it cannot protect the inner walls of the heat exchange tubes.
It seems the situation is quite serious. Since the pipeline carries corrosive substances, I think there’s some risk in doing this. I suggest cutting it out and replacing it with another one or dealing with it in some way, so as to avoid problems once the vehicle starts running; otherwise it will cause trouble, haha

There are many on-site processing devices available for face turning; you can consult about them. It’s possible to perform welding repairs first and then carry out turning, which results in better flatness.
