The simplest way to reduce viscosity is to add diluents, such as benzene and other solvents. However, it is not economical to remove high-viscosity compounds. However, it is said that there is a type of coal tar viscosity reducer available; I have not used it myself. The following information is provided for reference only: Coal tar viscosity reduction technology and coal tar viscosity reducers. The basic principle behind reducing the viscosity of coal tar is to shorten the long-chain hydrocarbons, thereby achieving viscosity reduction. The coal tar viscosity reducing additive I have developed requires only 0.2%-0.6% addition to coal tar to reduce its viscosity by 50 percentage points (as measured by viscosity). The cost is in the range of several dozen yuan. Simple stirring is sufficient to achieve the goal. Due to differences in oil quality across different regions, the effectiveness of use may vary. When used as fuel, coal tar performs better in its emulsified form. This product is a new series of additives designed to address the issues associated with coal tar produced by coking plants, such as high low-temperature viscosity, high freezing point, and poor fluidity. When used as fuel oil, high temperatures are required to reduce its viscosity, and it is also necessary to add distillate oils and other substances to overcome these problems. Depending on the characteristics of fuel oils of different types, different formulations are used, which are tailored to specific needs. This product is a new type of active agent that is soluble in mineral oil and remains stable under strong acids, strong bases, and high temperatures. There is no corrosion. It ultimately achieves the purpose of reducing viscosity. The main components are obtained through the reaction of polyalkanes and amino compounds. I. Technical requirements for the product’s performance parameters: Appearance: Colorless or pale yellow liquid. Active ingredient content: ≥50%. Specific gravity: Around 1.21 g/ml. Viscosity reduction rate: When used to reduce the viscosity of coal tar as fuel oil, an addition amount of 0.2–0.6% results in a reduction of about 70% in viscosity, from 10,000 MPa·s to 300,000 MPa·s. It has a significant effect on reducing the viscosity of coal tar, allowing for a substantial reduction in the amount of distillate oil needed, or even eliminating the need for such oil altogether. Solubility: It is miscible with oils (or exists in a dispersed phase). This viscosity reducer is widely used by fuel oil blending and sales companies in provinces such as Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Liaoning. II. Performance: 1. This product is an organic active agent and contains no heavy metals. No chemical reaction occurs under any conditions, and no precipitates form during fuel oil storage. 2. This product is a reaction synthesis preparation. 3. It reduces the resistance between oils, as well as between the oils and the pipe walls, and lowers surface tension, thereby improving the fluidity of coal tar. III. Reducing energy consumption and achieving cost savings while improving efficiency 1. The operation process is simple: it only requires adding additives, distillate oil, and coal tar, which are then mixed together through the equipment via circulation. The same effect can be achieved by using a composite oil without adding distillate oil. 2. It has an excellent viscosity-reducing effect, allowing for a reduction in the amount of distillate oil required; the viscosity reduction rate can exceed 70%, thereby significantly improving economic efficiency. IV. Scope of Application: Coal tar with high viscosity that requires viscosity reduction. By using fixed equipment, coal tar and chemicals are thoroughly mixed, thereby achieving the goal of reducing viscosity. V. Usage Method: 1. A. Add this viscosity reducer to the reactor already filled with coal tar in the appropriate proportion, and stir thoroughly until uniform; B. If adjustment with fractionated oil is necessary, mix this agent with fractionated oil in a 10:100 ratio (if water emulsification is required, first prepare a solution of 8–10:100 using fractionated oil and water, and then add the emulsifier in the appropriate proportion). Use the selected production method as determined through laboratory testing to produce fuel oil. Circulate the solution, fractionated oil, and fuel oil evenly within the storage tank using equipment, so that the performance parameters of the blended fuel oil can be measured. (For the best results, processing with the FD-600 homogenizer yields the optimal outcome. ) 2. The dosage is generally 0.1-0.6% of the amount of fuel oil used. 3. When reducing the viscosity of oils with different viscosities, adjust the formulation of the chemical agent according to the actual conditions of the oil. 4. After the additive is added, the viscosity of coal tar is significantly reduced, which lowers the amount of distillate oil required to reduce its viscosity. This improves the transportability and usability of coal tar, reduces the cost of fuel oil, and enhances economic efficiency.
