What is the approximate hydrogen sulfide level in the light hydrocarbon stations in oil fields? Is it necessary to analyze this value when conducting safety assessments?
As the quality of raw materials processed by various units is becoming increasingly poor, and the proportion of sulfur in these raw materials is rising, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of their hazards. Under normal circumstances, hydrogen sulfide levels should be kept at no more than 10 ppm. Since a safety assessment is necessary, this aspect must be given due attention; clear warning signs should be placed in the areas where such work is carried out, and boundary lines should be marked with conspicuous paint. Personnel carrying out inspections in these areas need to wear H2S detectors to ensure their safety.
The hydrogen sulfide content is closely related to the raw materials; the sulfur content in domestic crude oil is generally between 200–300 ppm. Through processes such as desulfurization, hydrogenation, and etherification/alkylation during refining, this level can be reduced to around 50 ppm.
