Rust removal from the surface of the test specimens

Hello everyone. I previously processed a batch of carbon steel test pieces and subjected their surfaces to shot blasting treatment, but due to improper storage, some of the test pieces developed rust on their surfaces. What methods can be used to remove surface rust without damaging the surface condition of the shot-peened area? I appreciate everyone’s help in advance. Thank you.
Since it’s a test sample, there should be a cleaning solution for it; use that solution to clean it. Laundering solution = (dilute hydrochloric acid + retardant). After washing with the solution, it is rinsed with distilled water, then dehydrated with anhydrous ethanol, and stored after drying.
But will ordinary cleaning solutions damage the surface morphology after shot peening?
